The Journey of Exploration of an Atypical Physician by President Huey-Kang Sytwu

Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) held a president’s lecture on March 3rd, 2023. Huey-Kang Sytwu, President of the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), Taiwan, was invited to present a speech on "The Journey of Exploration of an Atypical Physician". He shared his experiences from schooling to working years and encouraged students to explore their possibilities, build self-confidence, and be brave to break out of the orthodox frame. President Sytwu also quoted a sentence from the memoirs of bioengineer Academician Shu Chien, "the greatest joy of life is learning, the greatest harvest in life is dedication, and the greatest meaning of life is to create". President Sytwu used these words to inspire the students to understand the power of love and to pursue excellence in life. In recent years, KMU and NHRI have carried out collaborative research in the fields of cancer immunotherapy, precision medicine, microbiome, disease prevention, and clinical applications of medical nanotechnology. In addition to collaboration in scientific research, KMU also hopes that the researchers from NHRI share their valuable academic and life experiences, so the students will be inspired by the road they have traveled. By doing so, the collaboration between KMU and NHRI will not only succeed in the academic fields, but also promote closer interaction in the education of humanities.
