Construction of the International Student Dormitory at KMU

has commenced with the directive of creating a sustainable green living environment

 

To upgrade the quality and capacity of on campus accommodation, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) is constructing a new dormitory for international students. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 25, 2022. The ceremony was led by Eric K. Chen, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Kaohsiung Medical University, and all leaders and guests joined in praying for the safety and success of the construction. The date for completion of work is expected to be February 2026.

The total construction site area of the dormitory is 2,452 m2 and the total floor area is 28,787 m2. The building has 14 floors above ground and 3 floors below ground. The public areas located on the 1st to 3rd floors have sports areas (containing a fitness room, dance studio, billiard room and indoor 100-meter running track), independent learning spaces (including conference rooms, study hall and multi-functional rooms), as well as a social hall, art space, and a sky garden for students to communicate and rest. It is envisioned this will create a comfortable environment for leisure, sports, and studying. The 4th to 13th floors will be student dormitories, with a total of 996 beds (including 40 disabled-friendly beds). The 14th floor with 48 beds is designed to be the international house for accommodation for alumni, international scholars and short-term exchange students. This building also provides international-friendly accommodation that takes into account of intercultural and religious needs. The parking lot will be located three floors below ground, including 500 parking spaces for motorcycles and 120 parking spaces for cars.
