Key Points and Objectives of the Activity: To help international students integrate into the local living environment and enhance their daily communication skills and cultural understanding, this course focuses on practical Chinese. It combines real-life situations, language training, and cultural tours to cultivate learners’ ability to apply Chinese in areas such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and leisure, thereby promoting cross-cultural exchange and social participation. Features of the Activity and Implementation Details: Over the span of 12 weeks with a total of 24 sessions, the Chinese language instructor guided students through topics such as self-introduction, the Hanyu Pinyin system, practical daily conversations, résumé writing, and mock interviews. Classroom assignments were closely integrated with weekly lessons, including recording a self-introduction video, designing a dialogue for ordering food, writing emails to professors or classmates, and even exploring Taiwan’s National Health Insurance system or drafting a script for a lost-and-found announcement. By combining language training with real-life applications, the course not only strengthened students’ Chinese proficiency but also enhanced their ability to navigate everyday situations and professional contexts, highlighting its distinctive features and effective execution. Descriptive Feedback: 1. Laoshi encourage students to be more active in both speaking or reading mandarin characters. I also very happy to get the mandarin book learning material. 2. I really like this course. The teacher is attentive, checks our homework, and provides one-on-one feedback. The class focuses on helping everyone practice speaking and create sentences that we can actually use in real situations. Honestly, I wish there were more course options available for students who already have some basic foundation. |
