Delegations from Southern Taiwan Universities Alliance made a courtesy call to University of the Philippines to participate in the president’s Turnover Ceremony.  Among them are KMU delegations, Vice President Prof. Hsiu-Hung Wang, Dean for Office of Global Affairs Prof. Hung-Yi Chuang and Vice Dean for Office of Global Affairs Prof. Fang-Rong Chang.  The trip was multiplied by its tour to the well-known Philippines universities as well as other universities under the UP system.  The trip was quite fruitful.  The five days journey covered quite a lot prestigious universities such as University of Santo Tomas, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Dela Salle University, Ateneo University Manila, and Technological University of the Philippines.

Day 1—Feb. 8, 2017, the first stop was Lyceum of the Philippines University, LPU. It offered study of medicine and this visit did open the possibilities for KMU and LPU’s discussing future collaborations.


Day 2—Feb. 9, 2017, all the crew stopped by our partner university, University of Santo Tomas, UST and were welcomed with great warmth.  In the interim of the visit, KMU had discussions for substantial collaborations on research, student exchange program and UST faculty members’ further study program.  In the afternoon, all the representatives visited De La Salle University and UP Manila.  Ever since building partnership with UP, UP Manila had been the major collaborative partner with KMU for both universities had lots of fields of interests in common.  Chancellor Prof. Carmencita D. Pailla led the Deans and chiefs to welcome the crew from Taiwan.  This visit was a predecessor to expect more academic communication by the end of March.

Day 3—Feb. 10, 2017, Vice President Prof. Hsiu-Hung Wang, Dean for Office of Global Affairs Prof. Hung-Yi Chuang on behalf of KMU gifted the Koji Pottery to former President Alfredo E. Pascual and the newly appointed UP President Danilo Concepcion to show our regards for both and especially to endow the best wishes for forfuture management of UP.

Day 4—Feb. 11, 2017, during the visit to Technological University of the Philippines, TUP, KMU representative, Prof. Chuang and Prof. Chang listened to the brief report of Clark Green City, an urban planning area where new possibilities of investment might be closely reviewed by all the delegations from Taiwan universities.

The courtesy call was concluded by a farewell dinner party banqueted by UP.  KMU would surely open up a broad horizon of collaborations with universities in Philippines in correspondence with the new governmental policy—heading south to Southeast Asia Counties,
