Congrats! KMU professor was granted the "Plum Blossom Card" for permanent residency
Dr. Vinoth Kumar Ponnusamy, an Indian associate professor of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry at Kaohsiung Medical University, was granted the "Plum Blossom Card" for permanent residency after being reviewed by the Ministry of the Interior as a "senior professional". The director of Kaohsiung 1st Service Center of the National Immigration Agency (NIA), Mr. Raymond Hsu, delivered the card in person to Dr. Ponnusamy on September 26, 2022. The NIA hopes to encourage international talents to come to Taiwan by recognizing their specialized qualifications, skills, academic strengths and contributions as such professionals may offer to Taiwan.
Dr. Ponnusamy began teaching at our university in 2016 with academic expertise in analytical chemistry, green extraction techniques and application of nanocatalyst materials on green energy technology. He has served on the editorial board for more than four internationally renowned periodicals, and written or co-authored more than 140 academic papers published in SCI-indexed journals. Dr. Ponnusamy has accomplished abundant research achievements and won grants sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education as well as the Ministry of Science and Technology. Dr. Ponnusamy’s outstanding research performance made him listed in the "Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide" as identified by the Stanford University team, and stood out in the "2020 Scientific Impact Ranking". Dr. Ponnusamy now also serves as an examiner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, assisting the FDA to check and monitor food safety in Taiwan.
