The Taiwan Regional Office of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for
Public Health (APACPH) was inaugurated on 4th August 2022 at KMU
to enhance Taiwan's international influence in public health
The purpose of establishing the Taiwan Regional Office of the APACPH at KMU is to promote local internalization, facilitate international exchange, and enhance Taiwan's international influence in public health.
APACPH is the largest and most influential non-profit academic international organization for public health and medical care in the Asia-Pacific region. It has 96 institutions from 22 countries, including 9 institutions in Taiwan, namely: KMU; Health Promotion Administration; Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW); The Department of Public Health, Taoyuan City; National Taiwan University; National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University; National Cheng Kung University; Taipei Medical University; China Medical University; and Tzu Chi University.
Dr. Ya-Wen Chiu, a professor at the KMU Department of Public Health, is the director of the Taiwan Regional Office. As one of the core officers of the APACPH Executive Board, she is responsible for the cooperation and liaison with the institutions in Taiwan to give Taiwan a voice in APACPH. Dr. Agustin Kusumayati, the university secretary of the University of Indonesia and the president of APACPH, sent a letter to congratulate the inauguration of the Taiwan Regional Office and looked forward to having more cooperation and exchanges with KMU.
In future, the Taiwan Regional Office of APACPH will focus on: strengthening exchanges among domestic members; planning and implementing transnational public health practice and academic research cooperation; as well as enhancing Taiwan's international visibility in public health.
Subsequently, KMU’s global vision objectives are to promote more international exchanges, to advance local internationalization, and to cultivate Taiwanese talents with the capability to connect to the Asia-Pacific region.
