Open Mic Dialogue with University of the Philippines, Philippines on Oct. 20, 2016

On Oct. 20th, Delegations from University of the Philippine system visited Southern Taiwan to join the Open Mic Dialogue with Southern Taiwan Universities Alliances.  KMU representatives are Dr. Hsiu-Hung Wang, the vice president, and Dr. Bin Huang, the director of Office of Global Affairs (OGA).   The “Open Mic Dialogue” meant to construct a solid base for reciprocal and sustanable academic communication and collaboration for the near future.  Dr. Hsiu-Hung Wang and Dr. Fang-Rong Chang, the vice dean of OGA, were invited to join the dialogue and presented opinions and suggestions for the future.

A number of well-known southern Taiwan universities are also members of this event, such as National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT), National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), SHU-TE University, National Kaohsiung Marine University (NKMU), National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU), National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology (NKFUST), and National Taitung University (NTU).

“Taiwan is fame for some large electronic technical companies, and Philippine employees are not simply a little of.  We believed that the interchange between nations shall start from proletariat, and the ignited match shall be education.  Besides the collaboration to promote Philippine lecturer, we hope the leadership could be cultivated in the same time.” said by Philippine representatives.

While the dialogue proceeded on, both of Philippines and Taiwanese representatives mentioned about the difficulties of interchange process.  Examples like Taiwanese students are not eager for Philippine study experience, and Philippines’ students seldom choose Taiwan to be their priority. “Singapore, North America, German, British, Australia, and other western countries are still better than.  For Philippine elites, Taiwan is not an impressed one.” , cited by Philippine members.  Through Taiwan-Philippine substantial collaboration, we hope the barricade blocked of could be removed.

"We have twenty master degree vacancies offered by eleven graduate institutes with one master program, and fifteen doctor degree vacancies offered by seven Phd institutes with one Phd program.  Aside from the joint program, two collages for one degree, KMU has its specialty, duel program, namely two collages for two degree.", mentioned by KMU representatives.

Other discussion about program for industries, Taiwan-Philippine workshops, exchange programs and language teacher exchange are also in the issue.

This is the first step on education between Taiwan-Philippine citizens.  Came forth before “New South bound policy” flag waved by government, Taiwan-Philippines Alliance expected the interchange could bring advantages for both citizens.
