Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) and Kumamoto University signed an Academic Cooperation Agreement and a Student Exchange Agreement on November 25, 2025. Led by President Ming-Long Yu, the KMU delegation visited Kumamoto University for the signing ceremony, strengthening collaboration in medical education, clinical training, and research.

The partnership, which originated from joint research on liver diseases and MAFLD, advanced significantly after the two universities reconnected at the Taiwan–Japan University Presidents’ Forum in July, accelerating discussions on deeper cooperation and student mobility.

Future collaboration will include medical student clinical electives, joint research, medical innovation initiatives, and faculty exchanges. Both universities also possess complementary strengths in infectious diseases and virology, paving the way for further joint research and public health cooperation.

KMU noted that the agreements represent a major step forward in international partnership and academic exchange between Taiwan and Japan.
